The call from Airforce Two to the Kinston Radio Tower announced the arrival of Vice President Mike Pence with nine days remaining before the General Election. Pence jogged from the plane to the podium before he greeted the crowd who stood in the rain to see him.
All those in attendance were required to wear masks, with a reminder given before the event started. Temperatures were taken upon arrival, and both masks and sanitizer were provided. Both Pence and the second lady tested negative for COVID on Sunday after a few people who have worked with Pence tested positive.
Michael Whatley, Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party was one of the first speakers to address the modest crowd with a few hundred people. He engaged the crowd by reiterating the, “Promises made, promises kept,” slogan from the Trump administration.
U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 7th congressional district, David Rouzer spoke of the importance of the upcoming election.
“We will either have mob rule or law and prosperity,” said Rep. Rouzer.
His message was echoed by U.S. Representatives from North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District Dr. Greg Murphy who said, “We are at a point in our nation’s history where we have never had more opposing views.”
Murphy went on to say, “This is where we are. The future of the nation is at stake.”
When Pence took the podium, he energized the crowd who cheered when he greeted North Carolina.
“It is great to be here in the Tarheel state, even on a soggy night,” said Pence who declared North Carolina is Trump Country.
As he addressed the crowd, Pence spoke of the improvements his administration made to the Veterans Affairs office, the military, and trade agreements with foreign countries while calling out Biden for wanting to raise taxes and a socialist agenda.
