Letter to the editor: Nancy Gilmore - Thank you, Lenoir County
Thank you Lenoir County! I was overwhelmed with the response to the Write-In candidate campaign for Board of Education. Knowing that being a Write-In would be an uphill battle, I spent the 91 days (yes, that’s how long I had from filing for office until Election Day) in overdrive to get my name out. For a first time candidate, this was quite an undertaking and many would have never attempted it because of the obvious difficulty. But as I have always told my students, you never know if you don’t try!
What made it easy was you, the citizens of Lenoir County! From Sand Hill to Deep Run, from La Grange to Southwood, you were receptive and supportive from the start. I enjoyed meeting you in fire department meetings, community events, out and about around the county, and at the polls. The outpouring of support on social media, through emails, and texts was so encouraging and really helped the grassroots campaign effort.
Many of you spent time at the polls on behalf of the Write-In candidates which showed your dedication. I also owe a huge thank you to the Lenoir County Parents for In-Person Education PAC who so willingly helped with advertisement efforts and more. I have been humbled by the support and although I didn’t garner enough votes, I am more proud than ever to live in Lenoir County. I’d say that for the first time ever, or at least in a very long time, parents are aware of what is going on in regard to the Board of Education and will be active and instrumental in future decisions that affect their children’s education.
It was also a true pleasure to run alongside many great candidates who brought a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to the table. I challenge all the candidates for every office—whether you won or lost—to use that same passion to come together over the next few years and work for the people of Lenoir County. Together we can make a huge difference in our community. I am excited about the future of Lenoir County!
