UNC Lenoir Health Care reintroducing vascular surgical services
Bryan A. Ehlert, M.D. has joined UNC Lenoir Health Care and Physicians Network to provide care and treatment of vascular conditions and diseases in Lenoir County. As a fellowship trained vascular surgeon, Dr. Ehlert can diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of conditions of the arteries and veins utilizing medical therapy, minimally invasive procedures and surgical interventions. Vascular surgeons treat blood vessels in every part of the body except the heart and brain.
Vascular surgeons help patients managed their vascular conditions and diseases using various medical approaches including lifestyle changes and medicines that lower the risks of blood clots. Common surgical and endovascular procedures performed include opening blocked arteries using thrombolysis, angioplasty, and stenting; repair and oblation of veins to remove spider and varicose veins and improve circulation; treatment of aneurysms of the aorta and other major vessels and care of patients suffering vascular trauma.
Vascular surgery procedures can be used to reduce the risk of stroke and loss of lower limbs due to inadequate blood supply caused by diabetes.
Dr. Ehlert competed medical school at the University of Texas at Houston School of Medicine in 2008. He completed a general surgery residency at Vidant Medical Center and the Brody School of Medicine in 2014 where he was also a Cardiovascular Sciences Research Fellow at the East Carolina Heart institute. He completed a vascular and endovascular fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2016. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Ehlert was named an Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery at East Carolina University Physicians Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC.
Dr. Ehlert will be partnering with Dr. Kenneth Madsen with UNC Vascular Specialties at Goldsboro (NC) to form a regional vascular surgery practice serving eastern North Carolina. His Kinston practice will be with UNC Surgical Specialists at Lenoir.
“We are excited to offer this advanced service to our community”, said Robert Enders, President and CEO of UNC Lenoir Health Care. “This addition to our surgical services line further demonstrates our commitment to provide our region with outstanding healthcare. We are fortunate to have a surgeon of Dr. Ehlert’s caliber on our medical staff.”
