Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) provided the following statement amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“While working at home in eastern North Carolina, I’ve been hearing many concerns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak from my constituents, and rightfully so. Considering the many effects that come with the practice of social distancing, this is a difficult time for working families and small business owners who live paycheck to paycheck. Not to mention those who have the virus or have loved ones who are infected with the virus. Congress and the President are working very hard to find solutions to many of the problems facing the American people,” said Murphy.
“The first funding package Congress passed on March 4th enables the Small Business Administration to distribute $7 billion in low-interest loans to small businesses affected by global supply chain disruption. These loans can be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t wait throughout this time of isolation. Congress is proactively working on two more packages as well to help families in need. We understand the great burden these shutdowns have had on small business and we want to find how we can best help them in this time of unique need.
“I have been in frequent contact with my colleagues in Congress as well as state and local leaders to discuss further remedies to this crisis. We are in uncharted territory. We will get through it as individuals, families, communities and as a nation. We will find a path forward. I will provide updates as I receive them and will continue to listen closely to the thoughts and concerns of eastern North Carolinians.”
