The Father's Refuge holds ribbon cutting
To further its mission to be a leader in disaster preparedness and disaster recovery for Jones, Craven and surrounding counties, MX Network held a ribbon-cutting at the former Woodmen of the World Campground now named The Father’s Refuge.
“The property will be a beacon of hope and that people will come to experience the presence and power of God here,” said Scott Murphy, the Executive Director of MX Network.
MX Network plans to close the gap in disaster relief volunteer housing with the purchase of the Woodmen of the World Camp in Dover, NC. This former summer camp can accommodate 280 volunteers in 10 cabins with a cafeteria, kitchen, and dining hall. Lack of volunteer accommodation can prevent communities from getting the help needed to recover.
“The community needs to understand the impact a place like this can have,” said Trenton’s Mayor Darlene Spivey. “If you haven’t been affected by a flood, you don’t realize the intensity.”
The Father’s Refuge, a ministry of MX Network, hopes to gain funding to use towards the administrative budget of staffing and maintaining housing sites and the headquarters office in Trenton for the next two years.
In a further attempt to meet the community needs, any additional funding received will be used for demolition and removal of properties condemned by the county. They will have a budget reserved for the purchase of building materials for rebuilding or renovating homes and businesses. MX Network has caseworkers in place to handle requests for residents impacted by the hurricane who need help with extra income.
MX Network has partnered with National Relief Network, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, United Methodist Committee on Relief, Craven County Disaster Recovery Alliance and Jones County Rise in disaster preparedness and recovery in the wake of recent storms.
