Davis Basden, a 2016 graduate of Parrott Academy, has been selected by the East Carolina University College of Business as its 2019-2020 Outstanding Senior in Finance. Basden has been an ECU student in the Honors College since fall 2017. “This is a significant honor, and one that is well deserved,” stated Dr. Scott Below, Chair of ECU’s Department of Finance and Insurance.

Basden grew up in Kinston and graduated from Parrott winning both the Moll Academic Excellence Award and Alumni Student Athlete Award. He was a standout on the Patriot football team and successfully walked on to the Pirate team but decided not to play. “I wanted to focus on my studies,” he explained.

One of his successful academic projects was a senior thesis on the rural revitalization of Kinston’s economy. He spent a semester learning to adapt System Dynamics, an approach applied in engineering and industry, to an economic framework. Collaborating with Kinston officials, entrepreneurs, and investors, he then collected data to make a model of Kinston’s economic system.

He will receive his BSBA in Finance this May and plans to pursue an MBA.
