Local churches unite for a gas and food giveaway

On May 15th from 8:00am -10:00am at the Marathon Gas Station, 2001 Queen Street in Kinston, three local churches gave away gas and food for those in need.

Mr. Alfred Sutton, formerly of Kinston, said, “so many people have lost their jobs because of the pandemic - there was such a need for food and gas so we thought we would give it away to help people in need.”

The pastors were given tickets to distribute to those in need. Drivers pulled up and handed their tickets to the volunteers and were able to get gas and food. Although one technically needed a ticket to participate, Mr. Sutton said they did not turn anyone away that was in need.

The three churches responsible for organizing the event were Saint Augustus AME Church, Smith Chapel Church of God and St. Luke FWB Church.
