Mechanical Engineering Chair Matthew Berg, and Computer-Integrated Machining Chair Andrew Luppino, are spending five weeks this summer at Spirit AeroSystems as part of an externship.

The LCC faculty are learning to operate Spirit's new Broetje drilling machines. This type of return to industry experience keeps LCC’s faculty at the forefront of how the skills they teach their students are applied in regional industries.

Following the externship, LCC will partner with Spirit to do incumbent worker training as Spirit's drilling machine operators transition to the new system. The partnership benefits both Spirit and LCC by sharing knowledge and resources.

If you are interested in Advanced Manufacturing-related training, please stop in to the new LCC Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Center at 3800 HWY 58N or call (252) 527-6223, ext. 700 to set up a tour of the new facility.
