Parrott SGA holds virtual campaign
Amid Covid-19’s “new normal,” Parrott Academy held a “virtual” SGA election campaign, electing new officers on Friday, September 11.
In late August before classes began, ten students qualified to run for office. Faculty adviser Brad Sauls instructed them that instead of the traditional posters and handshakes in the halls, they would be limited to campaign videos. Most used the iMovie app, and their videos were available for viewing four days prior to voting.
“I finished my video before the first day of classes,” vice presidential candidate Ayush Lamsal said. “We had to keep it under five minutes and be creative. But I liked it because I really got to show my personality through the video.”
The school’s annual Honor Convocation was also held virtually on the same day as the SGA elections. Instead of a large assembly, middle and upper school students viewed an honor video during their homeroom period. Each student was then asked to sign a pledge to uphold the Honor Code throughout the year.
From twenty-five students who applied for Honor Council positions, a faculty committee selected seven to serve. They are senior Addie Cheek; juniors Taylor Llewellyn, Sean Murphy, and Helen Remington; sophomores Katelyn Corbett and Isha Omer; and freshman Hannah Henderson.
