Greene County confirms fifth COVID-19 death

Snow Hill – The Greene County Department of Public Health is reporting the fifth death in the county of a resident who had tested positive for COVID-19. The individual died on Sunday. The individual was younger than 65 and it is not confirmed yet whether the individual had about underlying medical conditions.

To protect the family’s privacy, no information will be released at this time. Greene County Department of Public Health Director Joy Brock said, “I am saddened by this death and so sorry for the family’s loss. My thoughts and prayers are with this individual’s family.”

The Greene County Department of Public Health has received the following notifications of new lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 cases:

  • Tuesday, 9/1 – 4 new cases

  • Wednesday, 9/2 – 7 new cases

  • Today – 9 new cases

That brings our total number of cases to 430. Out of the 430 lab-confirmed positive cases to date, 348 of the individuals have recovered, are doing well, and are out of isolation. Greene County currently has 77 active cases; the Health Department is monitoring 70 of those individuals and the other 7 individuals are currently hospitalized. Greene County has had five deaths.

Residents who feel they are in need of COVID-19 testing, need to call their primary care provider ahead of time in order to receive instructions on how to proceed.
