Obituary: Pastor Dennis Ledford

Pastor Dennis Ledford went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 26, 2021. He was surrounded by family. He was born on January 14, 1957 in York, South Carolina to the late Donald and Mildred Ledford. Dennis was the Pastor of Candlelight FWB Church for the last 16 years. He preached on the Flames of Fire radio ministry for many years.

He worked with Wheeler Exterminating for nearly ten years. A gentle, kind, and sweet man who loved and trusted God throughout his life. To know him was to love him. He served others humbly, generously, and graciously, and always believed the best in people. He dedicated his life to serving our community by sharing God’s love. He spent Thursday evenings visiting loved ones as well as complete strangers to try to spread the gospel or support them in their time of need. He touched more lives than could ever be summed up in this obituary. Nobody was a stranger to him. He was loved and respected by all. The world will never be the same without him.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 41 years, Renee Ledford; daughter, Dawn L. Johnson (Brandon); son, Stephen J. Ledford (Ashley); daughter, Ashleigh L. Shirley (Brandon); grandchildren, Hunter Ledford, Makayla Johnson, Anna Ledford, Kevin Ledford, Wyatt Shirley, Jacob Shirley, Gracie Shirley, and Emma Shirley; sisters, Marcene Sexton, Gail Simpson, Marilyn Dover, Melody Pruitt, and Michelle Simpson, and brothers, Danny Ledford and Max Ledford. The funeral service will be held on October 30, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, with visitation following the funeral service.

This excerpt was taken from one of his sermons, “Have you ever had someone that you know were a precious saint of God who died in the Lord – and he or she were so loved by everybody – people came from miles to show their respect for this dear saint of God. I hope my life and yours can impact people like this. But most of all – I hope my death will be precious in God’s eyes.”
