Reece Gardner: Three situations we face today

Reece Gardner: Three situations we face today

Folks, we all want to be positive in our outlook on life, and indeed there is a lot to be positive about, locally, Statewide, and nationally. But some things have occurred on the national and international scene during the past 9 months that in many ways are puzzling and hard to understand.

First, Afghanistan: We watched as we went from a position of control that we had maintained for almost 20 years to a position where we withdrew all our military forces while leaving behind hundreds of Americans and thousands of Afghan patriots who had supported us over the years to fend for themselves. By "We" I am referring to our current government. We have even discouraged and even blocked the efforts of many private citizens who have shown their willingness to give of their time, effort, and expertise to go in and make the effort to rescue our people who were left behind, many of whom are now suffering horrendously under Taliban rule. WHY?

Secondly, the Border: We have literally opened our Borders allowing, even encouraging, thousands of illegal immigrants to enter without regard to either criminal or health concerns. These entrants, consisting of men, women, and children, are coming in from various parts of the world, and are being offered free education and health care, without regard to their likelihood of creating a Welfare State of enormous and unmanageable proportions. I believe that most of us are pro-Immigrant. We just want it to be done in a lawful manner.

It is heartbreaking to see videos of people, particularly little children, huddled together in obvious pain & suffering in makeshift huts that are not fit for habitation while realizing that those who got them to this point are in some cases making huge amounts of money for doing so. WHY?

And Third, we have gone from being Energy Independent to relying on outside governments to supply our energy needs. When we shut down the Keystone Pipeline, thus suffering the loss of thousands of good-paying American jobs, we assured the rapid rise in the prices of gas and oil, and the need to cater to the whims of outsiders who in most cases are not friends of ours. WHY?

These are just three of the situations we face today. There are quite a few others that we need to be aware of. We are still in possession of the greatest country on the face of the earth, and it is incumbent upon us to keep it so. It's all about "WE, THE PEOPLE."

Now, to close on a humorous note:

A 15-year-old Amish boy and his Father visited the Big City for the very first time. They wandered around, marveling at the different sights. Eventually, they came to a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but they were especially amazed at the shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again.

The boy asked, "What is this, Father?" The father (never having seen an elevator) responded,

"Son, I've never seen anything like this in my life. I don't know what it is." While the boy and his father were watching in amazement, an unsightly old lady in a wheelchair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button.

The walls opened and the lady passed between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number and the numbers began to light in the reverse order.

Finally, the walls opened up again and a gorgeous young lady stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son, "Junior, go get your Mother."

Have a WONDROUS day!
