Ground breaking ceremony for LCCs Floyd Health Sciences Center

A ground breaking ceremony was held on the Lenoir Community College (LCC) campus for the Floyd Health Sciences Center. State and local officials joined the Floyd family in presenting information about the new center.

Lenoir Community College President Dr. Rusty Hunt said, “Today we are going to break ground on a new 30,000 square foot health sciences center.”

The addition to the current facility will allow the Health Sciences to have eight classrooms, two conference rooms, two office suites and seven labs fully equipped with state-of-the-art simulators and equipment creating a real medical arena. Lenoir Community College is investing $7.4 million to support the renovation and expansion of the new center. $5.4 million of the funding to support the renovation and expansion comes from NC Connect Bond and $2.0 million comes from a grant from the US Department of Commerces’ Economic Development Administration.

“It takes many dedicated people working together to overcome challenges many of our students face,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Randy Smith. “Today is an opportunity to see that vision as we prepare to break ground on the Floyd Health Sciences Center.”

The project was started on November 22, 2021 and the projected completion date is October 18, 2022. The architect for the renovation and expansion is LS3p and the contractor is Daniels and Daniels Construction. To recognize the Floyd family’s commitment to LCC and the community, the College is renovating the former Business Technologies Building and renaming it the Floyd Health Sciences Center.

Greg Floyd spoke on behalf of his family. “Thank you very much for attending and your kinds words. Growing up I knew the importance of education and the importance of giving back to the community.”

The Floyd family has supported the LCC Foundation through its scholarship program by endowing scholarships and by sponsoring major fundraising events in support of students for decades.

“This is an exciting time to be associated with LCC with all of the growth and experience that the college is experiencing,” said Floyd. “An investment in LCC is an investment in the community at large.”
