Allie Edward McCosley

May 31, 1931 – November 23, 2021

Allie Edward McCosley, 90, was received into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Allie was born in Craven County to the late John Edward “Dink” and Viola Wetherington McCosley on May 31, 1931. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Batchelor; and brother-in-law, Bobby Ipock.

With a drive in his spirit for service to others, Allie joined the United States Air Force, proudly and honorably served his country during the Korean War. Following his departure from military service, he continued to serve his fellowman through volunteer services with the local fire department and Rescue Squad. His tenure with the fire department concluded with retirement as the department’s president. During his time with them, he was instrumental in writing grants for funding and establishing the new fire station. Although his tenure with the Rescue Squad was not as lengthy as the fire department, Allie stayed with them until he was satisfied with the progress they had made.

Working for E.I. DuPont for 38 years, Allie served as a supervisor for the electrical staff. A gentle man with a quiet spirit and small stature, he had the leadership ability to command attention without ever raising his voice. He treated all of his staff as equals and was able to correct problems without offending anyone.

Allie’s way with raising children was equally as kind. A humble and tenderhearted man, his patience was incomparable. When disciplining his children, all he had to do was give them “the look”, and they knew to straighten up immediately.

A skillful and intelligent man, Allie was able to fix just about anything. Friends, neighbors, and church members alike depended on him for everything from washing machine repairs to television repairs. As a lifelong learner, Allie never saw a job he felt he couldn’t conquer. There was a way to accomplish the task at hand, and he’d do whatever was necessary to accomplish it on his own.

Community and service in church was a top priority for Allie throughout his life. As the first youth director for Bethany Christian Church of Jasper, Allie dedicated his time and attention to the enrichment of the lives of many young people. He also held positions as deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and was depended on as mediator when tensions became strong. In later years when he began worshipping at Tanglewood Church of God in Kinston, he utilized his talents as an electrician to help the church in any way he could. Allie went beyond professing Christianity; he lived it.

Though spare time was scarce, Allie enjoyed his time on the golf course, often playing 2-3 times a week. Additionally, he was a member of the Ionic Lodge #583 in Cove City.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021 in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. A private committal will be held later.

Allie is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Glenda Joyner McCosley; children, Danny McCosley and wife Lisa and Susan Leggett and husband, Randy; stepson, Robert Jackson and wife, Jean; grandchildren, Adam Leggett and wife, Lindsay, Nicki Davidson and husband, Joey, Robbie Jackson and wife, Blair, Cameron Jackson and wife, Kristen, and Spencer Jackson; great-grandchildren, Coleman, Sidney, Kolby, Dorsett, and Davis; siblings, Robert Earl McCosley and wife, Carolyn, Judy Ipock, and Tony McCosley and wife, Candace; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
