Taylor Moore, Assistant Principal of Greene County intermediate school was named this year’s Greene County School’s Elementary Assistant Principal of the year which is sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Principals and Assistant Principals. Each year Greene County Schools Principals choose one AP to represent them for both the Elementary level and secondary level. Mr. Moore was recognized with this honor during the board meeting on Monday, October 25.

Mr. Moore is a native of  Caldwell County in the Western part of NC.  He has lived in Eastern NC since 2008 with Greene County being my primary residence since 2012. He and his wife Sarabeth are both proud Greene County Schools employees. Sara Beth works as a Math Interventionist at West Greene Elementary. Mr. and Mrs. Moore have 1 daughter with a second one on the way in December.

Mr. Moore attended East Carolina University receiving his BS in History Education

East Carolina University and later a  Master of School Administration. He has been a member of the GCIS staff since November of 2015 after many years of teaching in the county. Mrs. Mumford, Principal of GCIS said in her recommendation that “Mr. Moore is dedicated to improving and providing quality education to all students and in maintaining a high level of staff morale.” Mrs. Mumford went on to say that “he will no doubt represent Greene County Schools well due to his ability to take on multiple roles and demonstrate exceptional leadership skills in the midst of tough times.”

Mr. Moore state that his inspiration to his current position was, “I loved teaching history and civics and economics, but I was looking for a way to broaden my impact.  Moving into my role as an administrator I have greater access to students, families, and educational professionals.  I enjoy interacting with all stakeholders to further develop our practices so the education system is more inclusive of all learners, more equitable for all families, and we see the realization that all students can reach their fullest potential.”

Mr. Moore said his success in his current position comes from him “ find(ing) a rewarding experience each day, and that is important to maintain focus and personal growth.”

As Covid 19 has affected education in an unprecedented way but Mr. Moore said “The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t necessarily changed the way I lead but rather the lens from which I lead.  I look more carefully at how equitable our current practices are and how we might consider adapting to ensure all students and families have access to a sound education.  This has further developed the way in which our teachers plan and interact with students and their families.”

Mr. Moore would like to Mrs. Jada Mumford, Principal, for the opportunities and freedom I have been given to develop my leadership skills.  Mr. Moore will compete through an interview and application process to hold the title National Elementary School Principals Outstanding Assistant Principal of the year.
