One dead, one injured in Deep Run fire

DEEP RUN — One person is dead and another is injured after a structure fire in Deep Run this afternoon.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. today, the Deep Run Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1719 Vernie Heath Road in Deep Run. Lenoir County EMS, Pink Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Southwood Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
One victim died from the fire. Another was injured and was transported by Lenoir County EMS to a hospital.
The Lenoir County Emergency Services Fire Marshal, along with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation unit and the Office of State Fire Marshal are conducting the investigation of the fire.
At this time, nothing appears to be criminal in nature. The Lenoir County Fire Marshal and Lenoir County Emergency Services will follow up with the investigation.
