The College Board recently honored Parrott Academy college advisor Mitzi Moye with the Counselor Recognition Award.  According to the College Board, the award is given to “exemplary school counseling professionals who are proven lifelong learners, collaborators, and advocates.” Moye is one of only eight North Carolina counselors to receive this recognition.

Moye joined Parrott’s staff in 1992, working first on student health education, then coordinating student volunteer service. She established the school’s respected SERV Society for students and has mentored numerous APA students who have become Presidential Service Scholars. Moving into the college advising position in 2004, she has helped craft an in-depth pre-college advising program that begins when students first sign up for 9th grade classes.

“This is such a well-deserved honor.  Mrs. Moye puts a special touch into her work, getting to know our students on a very personal level and walking with them every step of the way through their final four years of school,” noted Head of School Brooks Sutton.

In addition, Moye has been tapped as a co-facilitator at this year’s Southern Association for College Admissions Counseling conference to be held virtually April 19-21. She is also serving as a SACAC reviewer for Horizon Scholarship applications, her second year working in that capacity.
