KPD cruiser involved in pedestrian fatality

UPDATE

The officer involved in the accident was transported to UNC Lenoir to be treated for his injuries. No other information on the officer is being released at this time.

The Kinston Police Department and NC Highway Patrol are working with Lenoir County 911 to determine if the officer was in fact responding to a call that was already in that area

“Typically when an investigation is underway such as this, the officer will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing until a determination is made,” said Major Janee Spencer of the Kinston Police Department. She then confirmed that is what will happen to the officer involved in the accident.

Neither the name of the pedestrian nor the officer involved in the fatal collision were named.
