WHAT:

On July 15, the City of Kinston, Kinston Teens, and Kinston/Lenoir Parks & Recreation will host a community workshop at Emma Webb Park. Design Workshop, a Raleigh-based design firm, will guide attendees through different visioning activities to gather community input on the future of the park.

WHEN:

5:00PM to 7:00PM EST

July 15, 2021

WHERE:

Emma Webb Park picnic shelter

101 E Highland Ave, Kinston, NC 28501

WHY:

Emma Webb Park has been an important community gathering place for almost 90 years. The City of Kinston, Kinston Teens, Kinston/Lenoir Parks & Recreation, Design Workshop, and the American Flood Coalition will host a community workshop at the picnic shelter in Emma Webb Park to gather input from residents as to how they would like to see the park improve. The workshop will be an outdoor event, where attendees will have the opportunity to share their memories of the park, how they envision the park improving, and what types of activities and elements they would like to see at the park. Kinston Sunset Slush will be providing cold treats and there will be games, music and other family fun activities during the workshop. For more information on the event, you can visit www.EmmaWebbPark.com

The City of Kinston was immediately attracted to this grant offered by the American Flood Coalition as an opportunity to discuss future amenities at Emma Webb Park; their focus on flood mitigation was a perfect fit for our community to address the impacts of heavy rainfall in the park and the downstream carryover impacts to the Adkin Branch. While the Planning and Parks and Recreation Departments have taken the lead on the City’s behalf, Kinston Teens is the City’s primary community partner, using their many years of experience in the community and working with the City to build this project up for success.
