Farmer's market update for August 7, 2021
Farmer's Market Update August 7, 2021
Market hours:
Tuesday: 8am - 2pm
Saturday: 8am - 2pm
National Farmers Market Week August 1, 2021 through August 7, 2021.
On Saturday, we are hosting Okrafest!
It will be held in the section of the market nearest the red building, the Farmers Market Annex.
A big shout out to TC Smith Produce Farm, Inc.
The Smith family has donated the okra for the chefs to use at our Lenoir County Farmers Market OkraFest this coming Saturday starting at 9 am. This was a huge help because this demonstration is done free of charge - we're all volunteers.
This is a community conversation about the amazing Southern vegetable, okra. This is the community component of my okra mural made possible by the City of Kinston, North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts.
It is hoped that the community will buy okra from the farmers and support the food establishments of the participating chefs.
I am very grateful for Judy Kitts, Chef Scot Elden from Upstairs at The Market and Downstairs too, Kinston NC, Chef Peter Pun from The Laughing Owl Restaurant Downtown Kinston, and Chef Elmer Smith from Ziggy Dogs. I will be cooking, too - I'm making gumbo.... and it's really really good. There might be another chef cooking, too. I would LOVE for more chefs and cooks to be able to participate next year.

From Seraphim Smith:
As part of my Okra Mural Project in Kinston, I am hosting an okra cooking demonstration at the Lenoir County Farmers Market. Be there, okradokey? There will be samples.
City of Kinston, North Carolina Any okra lovers out there? Do any chefs want to make something okra, too, at the Farmers Market?
