Obituary: Glenn Fields
Glenn Fields December 12, 1943 – September 13, 2021
Goldsboro- Glenwood Allen Fields, 77, was received into the open arms of his Savior on Monday, September 13, 2021. Glenn was born in Lenoir County to the late Roland Fields, Jr. and Aline Sutton Fields on December 12, 1943. Upon graduation from high school, Glenn joined the United States Air Force and honorably served our country for four years. He continued working for the U.S. government as a rural postal carrier for areas around La Grange for 26 years. Everyone knew Glenn as “their mailman” as he served nearly all residents of the La Grange zip code throughout his tenure. If you were around Glenn for any length of time, you quickly learned that he loved to talk.
He seemed to know everyone he met, and even if he didn’t, you’d never be able to tell it from his conversation with you. He’s likely the only person who could answer a pay phone and know who with whom he was conversing. Possessing a love of genealogy and a deep passion to preserve history, Glenn worked tirelessly to explore his family tree, compile historical documents, interview older members of the community, and care for family cemeteries throughout Lenoir County. When he encountered a burial space that wasn’t being kept up, he took it upon himself to become its caretaker. He was truly a walking archive of La Grange history and ancestry.
A service to celebrate and remember Glenn’s life will be held by the graveside at Fairview Cemetery on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. The family requests that all in attendance wear face coverings and maintain a safe distance. Those wishing to pay respects to Glenn may also visit Rouse Funeral Home on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m.
