New STEM school to open later this year
A new educational facility for Pre-K through second grade is projected to open later this year. Dr. DuWanda S. Epps Promise Academy School of STEM (DSEPA). The school is built on a safe learning environment, innovative, well-structured quality education that cultivates achievement, individual academic growth, and resources needed to excel in the vast world of technology.
“It has been an arduous process to reach this point of developing an instrumental foundation for students, families, and the community,” said Dr. DuWanda S. Epps.
A Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, August 26th, 2021, at Dr. DuWanda S. Epps Promise Academy building located at 213 E. Gordon Street for the after-school enrichment program, Teen Saturday Academy, and Day Recreational Activities program for Developmental Disabled. Enrollment is open for DSEPA programs.
“We embrace and value utilizing a holistic approach to promote self-sufficiency and reliance families need to gain stability and thrive,” said Epps.
DSEPA is designed to provide academic capabilities early on, to prevent low performance in school. Their small groups and one-on-one tutorial services and various academic-enrichment activities are designed to help students meet local and state academic standards in subjects such as reading and mathematics and importantly excel beyond their own expectations.
“It’s not only the compassion of serving disadvantaged communities but bearing the linguistics of culture, diversification, and the analytical skills to create a model for positive change, academic proficiency, self-sufficiency, and self-reliance,” said Epps. “Those are the key soaring past your own expectations.”
In addition to regular day school, afterschool enrichment programs providing youth development activities; drug- and violence-prevention programs; counseling; character education, family involvement, and community outreach to enhance the academic component of our philosophy and to the practicum of their holistic approach.
