Ken Skinner

January 28, 1970 – August 26, 2021

Stantonsburg - Nathan Kenneth “Ken” Skinner, Jr., 51, passed away on August 26, 2021. Although his departure from this life was unexpected and seems unfair, his welcome in Heaven had been prepared and his arrival was no less grand beyond compare. Ken was born in Greene County to the late Nathan Kenneth Skinner, Sr. and Mable Potter Skinner on January 28, 1970. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Ann Skinner.

Growing up as the son of a truck driver, love for the open road was instilled in Ken. As soon as he was eligible, Ken joined the ranks of Old Dominion Trucking and worked alongside his father transporting cargo for their company. Known as “Special K”, Ken traveled over 3 million miles in the twenty-five years he worked for Old Dominion. The tradition of trucking continues on in his family through his son and namesake, Kenny.

When not working, Ken could often be found on the water with a fishing pole in hand. The calmness and solitude achieved on the water while waiting for a nibble on his line gave Ken time to stand in awe of the splendor of God’s creation.

Ken was introduced to his wife, Connie, a little over twenty-five years ago with the help of his father. Kenneth, Sr. met Connie and instantly recognized her goodness, warmth, and love. He decided she’d be the perfect match for Ken’s great personality. After the two met, there was an instant connection and the story lives on to this day. Two years later, Ken and Connie married and enjoyed twenty-three years of love, devotion, and adoration for each other. They considered themselves blessed to have found one another and knew there was no better companion to be had.

Family was Ken’s greatest love. A constant provider, he worked hard to ensure that his wife and children lacked for nothing. His greatest blessing on earth was to be known as a family man, and he spent every moment possible with his wife and three children. A good joke to tell or a prank to play was right up Ken’s ally. Whether at work or at home, Ken always kept things stirred up and people laughing.

The family will receive friends at Rouse Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 beginning at 5:00 p.m. A service to celebrate and remember Ken’s life will follow the visitation at 6:00 p.m.

Ken is survived by his wife of 23 years, Connie Skinner; children, Patrick Skinner, Kenny Skinner, and Matthew Skinner; brother, Jonathan Skinner and wife, Renee; sister-in-law, Wendy Vick and husband, David; and a niece, Lindsey Vick.
