Lewis Clarence (L.C.) Carlton, Jr.
August 16, 1934-January 20, 2022
Raleigh - L.C. Carlton, Jr. peacefully transitioned to his Heavenly home on Thursday, January 20, 2022. L.C. was born in Lenoir County to the late Lewis Clarence Carlton, Sr. and Aurelia Kornegay Carlton on August 16, 1934. He grew up in Kinston and El Paso, Texas.
L.C. was a graduate of Grainger High School and Wake Forest College. He was also an ordained minister from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. One of L.C.'s proudest tasks of his ministry service was officiating the wedding service of his sister and her husband. He was the minister of Seven Springs Baptist church during his short ministry career. The majority of L.C. 's career was spent as Human Resources Manager with the North Carolina Employment Securities Commission, as well as Beaufort County Hospital and Eastern Carolina Vocational Center.
A love of antiques and woodworking was a hobby of L.C.’s. He loved fine antiques, antique shopping and working on furniture repair and refinishing. As an avid woodworker, L.C. spent a lot of his free time working in his workshop doing miscellaneous furniture projects with his proud collection of tools. He was a collector of fine furniture in his home. He never read a Handyman magazine or antiques book he did not like. He was very knowledgeable about antique production and structure. He was found often on Saturday afternoons watching PBS on T.V. for its woodworking shows.
L.C. always enjoyed learning about his family's genealogy and was very knowledgeable about his family's past generations. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends sharing those stories. L.C. enjoyed reading the newspaper every day. He always started by reading the obituaries first. He commented with a laugh, “I want to see if I’m in here today.” His family would often find him napping with the paper draped over him like a lap blanket. L.C. was very involved as a member at Spillman Baptist Church. He sang in the church choir and drove the church van to numerous functions for them. He thoroughly enjoyed his church family.
A service to celebrate L.C.’s life will be held in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home in La Grange on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship in the hour prior to the service. Committal will follow at Westview Cemetery in Kinston.
