Obituary - David Michael “Mickey” Williams

David Michael “Mickey” Williams of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on Sunday October 9, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 pm in Westview Cemetery. Rev. Doug Stokes of Gordon Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.

David Michael “Mickey” Williams was born in Kinston, North Carolina on February 14, 1935, graduated from Grainger High School in 1953, and was a member of Gordon Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He attended NC State College and entered the United States Army in 1958. After his obligatory service in the United States Army, he completed his academic career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated with a BS in Business Administration, with a major in Accounting in 1962.

It was during his time at Chapel Hill that he became a lifelong Tarheel sports fan. He became a Certified Public Accountant and worked in Raleigh, NC for several years before joining Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company where he retired after working 34 years in various accounting areas. In Newport News, he was an active member of Hilton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as treasurer for over 25 years. After retiring, David and Beth moved to Raleigh, NC for 11 years where he was an active member of Hillyer Memorial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In 2010, David and Beth moved to Columbia, SC where he was a member Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beth Harris Williams, son Jeffrey Williams of Wilmington, NC (Sherry), daughter Karen Williams Brown of Columbia, SC (Michael). Granddaughters Anna Brown (Columbia, SC) and Loren Williams (Charlotte, NC), sister Judy Williams Carey (special friend Ilya Sarasohn) and brothers Douglas Williams (Nancy) and Kenneth Williams (Barbara). He is preceded in death by his parents, Park Nunn and Ada Pearl Johnson Williams and infant daughter Sarah Beth Williams. Memorials may be made to Gordon Street Christian Church, 118 East Gordon Street, Kinston, NC 28501.
