Lisa Byrd: Candidate for Jones County Board of Education
Republican Lisa Byrd is a Jones County girl who, along with her husband, own and operates their family business called Byrd’s Towing. Byrd is an active member of Maysville Fire and EMS where she serves as the treasurer. She started communicating with the Jones County Board of Education in 2019 as a concerned parent, and in 2022 she’s on the ballot for a seat on the board.
“I have continued to communicate with the current Board members and administrators as an advocate for the silenced and unheard over the last five years,” said Byrd.
Byrd believes Jones County deserves to be recognized and respected for the talents and intelligence that lie within the county. “Jones County is small but big in heart and full of love,” said Byrd. “Jones is overlooked or under-estimated because it is considered a poor county to live and raise a family. This is such a misconception.”
Several years ago, Byrd was asked to come to a meeting where The College to Career Promise Program was first introduced. In this program, every child in Jones County has the opportunity to acquire free college while in high school with the opportunity to graduate high school with an associate’s degree.
“We must continue to feed programs such as the CCP,” said Byrd. “I would like to see Jones County continue to prosper and provide more opportunities for Jones County children to be just as successful as our neighboring larger counties.”
Byrd has been and will continue to be, an advocate for the children and their education. She strives to be a strong voice for the silenced and unheard, to stand up for children, parents and educators and to promote fairness and equity for all.
“I will do this with honesty and transparency,” said Byrd.
Byrd hopes to win a seat on the Jones County School Board. Her approach will continue to be ‘Through a Mother’s Eyes’. “The youth of today is our future,” said Byrd. “Jones County students deserve the same opportunities for their future as the larger county school districts.”
Byrd is in the race for Jones County Board of Education against Mary Ann coward (D), Myron Meadows (D), Debra Philyaw (R), Larry Walston (R), and Michael Wilder (D). Of them, three will be voted on the board.
