Obituary: Braxton Hunter Spence

On Thursday, October 27th, Braxton Hunter Spence of Kinston, NC passed away at the age of 28. Braxton was born on November 29th, 1993, to Kevin and Terri Spence. He is survived by his parents, Kevin and Terri. His sister, Rush Spence Montagne and husband Eric Montagne, and their daughter, Ellie Montagne of Raleigh, NC, his Mema, Cathy Potter, and Husband Scotty Potter, along with his cousin Kaila Dickerson and her daughter Brianna Mendez of Snow Hill, NC. He is survived by many other family members and friends who he loved dearly including his special friend, Ashley Carter.

Braxton was a loving, smart, and charismatic, young man who had a sense of humor like no other. He had a smile that could warm anyone's heart and a mischievous little grin that we will never forget. He was outspoken and always stood true to what he believed in. He would help anyone he could and always greeted you with a big smile and an even bigger hug. Braxton struggled with addiction and fought so hard until his very last day. He would never blame anyone for the choices he made, he always owned them and the consequences that followed. Unfortunately, addiction doesn't discriminate and will destroy everything in its path. Braxton would never want to be defined or remembered by the mistakes he made, but by the people’s hearts he touched along the way; and that boy didn’t know a stranger.

Braxton is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Billy and Joanne Spence, his maternal grandfather Terry Dickerson, many aunts, uncles, and cousins that he loved so much.
