Governor Roy Cooper selects Morgan Swinson to serve as District Court Judge
Governor Cooper appoints Morgan Swinson as District Court Judge for Judicial District 4, which includes Jones, Onslow, and Sampson counties. The Fourth Judicial District met in January to determine whose name would be submitted to serve in the remainder of Judge Sarah Seaton's term.
“During the meeting, the attorneys voted, unanimously, for my name to be submitted to the Governor,” said Swinson. “I sincerely appreciate the Attorney's of the Fourth Judicial District vote of confidence, and am honored to be recognized by my peers.”
Swinson will be sworn in as a Judge on March 11th, 2022. After receiving the training offered by the UNC School of Government, she will begin to hear cases in District Court.
“Although it will take a while to get used to the schedule, I feel confident in my abilities and hope to run the courtroom efficiently,” said Swinson.
Swinson grew up in Duplin County and graduated from East Duplin High School. She went on to North Carolina State University and then graduated from North Carolina Central School of Law. She begin her legal career as a prosecutor for Onslow, Duplin, Sampson and Jones counties.
“I happily live in Duplin county with my family and am grateful to serve the community I have lived in for a long time,” said Swinson.
For ten years, Morgan practiced real estate, family law, and criminal law, while also serving as the Guardian Ad Litem Attorney Advocate for the children of Duplin and Sampson Counties.
“I hope to be fair and impartial, uphold the constitution as written and run the courtroom efficiently, saving time and taxpayer dollars,” said Swinson. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve the communities that I love so much.”
