Local church partners with Eastern NC Food Bank to provide resources for the community

The Macedonia FWB Church, at 648 Albrittons Road in Kinston, has teamed up with Eastern NC Food Bank to provide resources for those who are in need.

“24% of the population in the area live in poverty,” said Pastor Chris Taylor, Macedonia FWB Church. “I wanted to find out what conditions they were living in. Did they have food hunger? Need clothes? We did an assessment on the community.”

The church accepted the needs of the community and set out to meet them. In the first year, they fed about 500 people. The needs proved more than the small church could provide, so they partnered with Eastern NC Food Bank, who provided food that enabled the church to feed more people.

The food bank is open on the first Saturday and third Wednesday each month from 10:00 am to12:00 pm. Besides the food bank, the church also provides a pantry with ready to eat food stocked twice a week. Taylor hopes to add additional pantries throughout Lenoir County.

“Our goal was to feed 500 last year. This year we want to feed 5000,” said Taylor.

Those interested in helping Macedonia FWB Church’s effort to feed those in need can call 252-527-0896 or visit their website at nc4uall.org.

“We need any available resources,” said Taylor. “Whether it is in-kind service, to volunteer or to help with the food hub, or tangible resources like food or money. Whatever they can do to feed more people. “
