Obituary: Kenneth “Yankee” Fisher

Kenneth “Yankee” Fisher, 68, of LaGrange received his Heavenly guitar on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at UNC Lenoir Healthcare surrounded by his loving family. Yankee was preceded in death by his father, Frank Waite; sister, Wanda Flewelling; son-in-law, Joe Mike Baker. He served as a Sergeant in the Air Force from 1972 through 1978. During that time, he married the love of his life Joyce Hill.

They were married 48 years raising three amazing children together. If he wasn’t spending time with his family, you could find him in the woods hunting, playing his guitar, or watching his favorite baseball team, The Yankees. With Yankee, taxidermy became a hobby, which turned into a passion, that became a career, making him a legend in his profession. The most special times remembered with his family were the trips to Disney World. Some of the most cherished memories were made on the 2014 trip with the infamous 13.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joyce Fisher of the home; mother, Marguerite Waite; daughters, Jessica Baker and Jenny Gray (Donnie); son, Ken Fisher (Ashley), grandchildren, Ginger Stillwell, Kelsey Gray, Seth Baker, Korey Gray, Hayden Fisher; great grandchild, Ida Mullinax; sisters, Carol, Peggy, Nancy, Midge, Thersea, Robin; brothers, Ricky and Frank; special friends, Deanna Smith, Terry and Tammy Lipscomb, Charles and Rose Daniels and Yankee’s special dog, Flash.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 at Garner Funeral Home. Visitation will be held following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to The Joe Mike Baker Memorial Scholarship, 184 South Croom Bland Road, Kinston, NC 28504.
