Obituary: Ronnie Moye
Ronnie Moye
February 25, 1954 – April 30, 2022
La Grange - Ronald Wiggins Moye or “Ronnie”, as his friends and family knew him, passed away in Goldsboro on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the age of 68. Ronnie was born in Lenoir County to the late Jim Moye, Jr. and Hazel Wiggins Norman on February 25, 1954. In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his step-father, John Norman; siblings, Michael Moye and Beth Holland; and step-son, Chris Hill.
Ronnie was a farmer who loved the land...it was his passion. He certainly knew more about tobacco than RJ Reynolds and Phillip Morris. For many years, he was an artist that drew precise lines in the earth with a tractor. He cared for and watched over crops, season after season, year after year. For decades, he was up before sunrise and worked until sundown. He was raised in a farming family and was supported by a farming community in La Grange, NC.
Ronnie was forthright, some may say, to a fault. His direct demeanor wasted no time but provided guidance and assurance. His children were taught to stand up and speak out (and they do). He was proud, humble, and a good friend to many. He loved to hang out at the hunting lodge, enjoy a fish stew at the shop, and gossip at Sam’s store. He’d be angry if we didn’t mention “and he could cook a mean pig”.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Brad Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Ronnie is survived by his caring and supportive wife of 44 years, Linda Moye; son, Shawn Moye; daughter, Kristy Moye; granddaughter, Brianna Moye; sisters-in-law, Debbie Moye and children, Donna Schatzel and husband, John, Helen Darby, and Jan Oates and husband, Nigel; niece, Bethany Bridwell and husband Mike, and their children.
