Greene Early College graduates receive big scholarships

Greene Early College held their annual award day ceremony where they announced the recipients of four different scholarships. Yahir Ponce, Dorien Sutton, Lorien Stocks, Madia Harris, and Monejah Rouse, together, received a total of $18,000 for their future education. 

Yahir Ponce received an annual award of $1,000 from NCR Sports Car Club of America. Yahir plans to attend Lenoir Community College to obtain his Associates Degree in Welding Technology and Computer-Integrated Machining.

The second scholarship given was the State Employees Credit Union scholarship, “People Helping People.” This scholarship recognizes an individual with leadership, integrity, and community involvement. Dorien Sutton was the recipient of this scholarship, in the amount of $10,000. Dorien plans to attend East Carolina University to study Mechanical Engineering.

Lorien Stocks and Madia Harris were the recipients of the Inez E. Burge Scholarship. Lorien received the $2,000 scholarship. She plans to attend North Carolina State University to study Marketing Management and Fashion Design. Madia received the $3,500 scholarship. She plans to attend North Carolina A&T to study Political Science. 

The last scholarship given out was the Jabberwock Scholarship Pageant. Monejah Rouse was the recipient of this scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Monejah plans to attend North Carolina Central University to study Biology.
