NC Wildlife Federation names Senator Jim Perry as Legislator of the Year

Kinston, N.C. – The NC Wildlife Federation has announced the winners of its 58th Annual Conservation Achievement Awards.  Honorees for 2022 include agency professionals, elected officials, volunteers and organizations committed to North Carolina’s wildlife, habitat and natural resources.

State Senator Jim Perry (R- Lenoir) has been chosen as Legislator of the year by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation for 2022.

Senator Perry joined the Senate in 2019 and it wasn’t long before he made his mark on the North Carolina General Assembly as a champion for his district, and all of eastern North Carolina. Perry is an avid duck hunter, and has a great appreciation for the importance of preserving our natural wildlife habitats.

“The annual awards are a chance to highlight positive wildlife conservation efforts around the state while inspiring others to become more active in protecting North Carolina’s natural resources for future generations.” T. Edward Nickens, awards committee chairman.

The retired Kinston businessman has proven to be a quick study regarding the use of natural systems and resources to protect communities from flooding and other water flow challenges.  He has built a reputation as a lawmaker who always does his homework in order to understand and explain complex topics.  In addition to flood mitigation legislation, Perry also sponsored a bill to allow North Carolinians to preserve ownership of family farm land.

I appreciate the recognition of my efforts to dive into this topic.  Wildlife conservation and flood mitigation go hand in hand.  Protecting natural duck habitats also helps protect ENC families from flooding.  When you are a hunter and a lawmaker, that is a real win  win scenario.  — Sen. Jim Perry.

Senator Jim Perry serves as Majority Whip of the North Carolina Senate.  Additionally, he is Chairman of Health Care and Chairman of Appropriations on Health and Human Services.  He serves on the Appropriations, Finance, and Rules committees.
