Obituary - Emmett Marvin Smith
Emmett Marvin Smith, 86, passed away at his home on January 14th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Hilory (HB) Smith and Lela Harper Smith; as well as his brother Jerry Smith.
Emmett is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years Marie Hill Smith; sons, Greg Smith (Sandy), Johnny Smith (Kim); and daughter, Rhonda Cowley (David); sister, Faye Grady and brother, Richard Smith (Stephen); seven grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren and one on the way.
Emmett was a loving husband, father and grandpa. He was an Army Veteran, where he served in Germany. He was a lifetime farmer and business man. He was well known as the owner of HB Smith and Sons Store along with many other businesses. Emmett was a charter member of the Deep Run Fire Dept and served as a fireman for 40 years. He was also a charter member of the Deep Run Ruritan Club as well as a past president. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge and also served on the Deep Run Water Corporation Board of Directors.
Emmett was a lifetime member of the Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church and served there as a deacon and on several different boards within the church. He served many years helping to coordinate the Deep Run Men’s prayer breakfast. Many may also remember him as they walked in the door at Pink Hill Funeral Home where he worked and welcomed everyone with a smile. Even up until his last days he enjoyed going to Fitness by William to exercise and socialize with members there. He loved to be outside taking care of his yard and enjoying nature.
So many will always remember his contagious smile and his wonderful hugs. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Pink Hill Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
