Greene County Senior Center gears up for the Senior Games

Snow Hill - Greene County Senior Center is excited to announce the Neuse River Senior Games & Silver Arts. Sharron Harrison Director of the Greene County Senior Center shared that it “is an official sanctioned qualifying site for NC State Finals in 2023.” This event will have folks participating from several counties including Craven, Duplin, Jones, Lenoir, and Pamlico. 

Harrison shared that “participants entering must be 50 years of age or better by Dec. 31st, 2023. “The Neuse River Senior Games is a Regional Games Event which is being held in New Bern, NC April 24th-May 3, 2023. The Greene County Senior Center is hoping to have multiple athletes compete from Greene County. 

Athletic Events include Cornhole, Horseshoes, Basketball Shooting, Football Throw, Softball Throw, Table Tennis, Shuffleboard, Billiards, Bocce, Croquet, Track & Field including Shot Put, Discus, Race Walks, Long Jumps, Runs, & Dashes, Swimming, Golf, Tennis, and Pickleball. 

In addition to the athletic activities, the event also has the Silver Arts Events. This is a competition in various types of arts including visual, Heritage, Literary, and performing arts contests.

Harrison shared that “In an effort to increase participation in Wellness & Health Promotion Opportunities, Greene County has for years provided sponsorships for Greene County Residents to participate in Neuse River Senior Games.” 

These sponsorships include assistance with online registration, covering the registration fee, transportation to and from New Bern for competition. The Senior Center also provides snacks and meals as needed. Lenoir Residents can contact the Lenoir County Council on Aging at 252-527-1545 for more information.

The North Carolina Senior Games is a non-profit organization that provides year round health and wellness activities for adults 50 and older. It is sponsored and supported statewide by the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services.
