Munn Gymnasium sustains damage in storm

Munn Gymnasium at South Lenoir High School sustained damage as a storm moved through the area.

“The roof was damaged in places but is intact structurally. School is expected to open to students on Thursday as scheduled,” said Lenoir County Public Information Officer Patrick Holmes.

South Lenoir’s athletic director, David Combs reported that the gym is damaged and will not be available for the upcoming Friday night game against Kinston High and possibly for the rest of the season.

Deep Run, NC - Wind Damage at South Lenoir High School Gym

The gym at South Lenoir High School in Deep Run, NC sustained significant roof damage as storms passed through Southern Lenoir County this afternoon.  No one was inside the gym when the damage occurred and no injuries have been reported.  Lenoir County Emergency Management is currently on scene assessing the damage.  

Lenoir County 911 has also received calls reporting downed trees across Southern Lenoir County as well as one tree falling into a home at 1000 Catherine Ave in Kinston.
