Obituary: Kathryn Hale Murray

Kathryn Hale Murray, 94, of Kinston, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

A Memorial Service will be conducted Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 11am at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Kathryn Hale Murray was born in Windsor, NC on October 16, 1928, to Norene and Otho Hale. She attended Louisburg College for 2 years and graduated with an Associate Degree in Business. After finishing her degree Kathryn moved to Kinston in 1948 to work with the North Carolina Agriculture Extension Office. Upon arriving in Kinston, Kathryn met the love of her life, Charles Murray and they were married on November 19, 1950.

After marrying Charles and starting their family, Kathryn went back to school and attended East Carolina University earning her Bachelor of Science in Education. Kathryn taught First Grade at Teachers Memorial School, until she retired in 1991.

Kathryn was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, serving on different committees of the church, as well as an active participant of Presbyterian Women, earning a lifetime membership in 2010. She also lived out her faith as a dedicated volunteer as a Pink Lady, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in the Day Surgery Unit.

Kathryn is survived by her sons Chuck and Alan, wife Sara, grandchildren Tim, Coburn, and Adam, and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn is preceded in death by her sister, Johnston Hale, brothers, Fred, Bob, Wint, and Mac Hale.

In lieu of flower memorials may be made out to First Presbyterian Church, 2101 N. Herritage St. Kinston, North Carolina 28501.
