Obituary: Lena Mae Hinson White

Lena Mae Hinson White, 91, passed away at UNC Lenoir Healthcare Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

A Graveside Service will be conducted Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 11am at Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Lena grew up in Hugo. As the eldest of six children, she helped her mama to raise her siblings where she became an excellent cook. She attended school at Contentnea School for all 12 years. Following graduation, she married Calvin White and together they raised their children. She helped on the farm and worked in clothing sales at Cato’s, Brody’s, Belk’s, and Woolco. At age 47, she returned to school and obtained her nursing degree. She worked at Lenoir Memorial Hospital until retiring at the age of 70. She enjoyed her retirement and was a devoted member of Bethel FWB in Kinston. She adored her children, Marie, Renee, Harvey, and doted on her granddaughter Jessica. She was also extremely fond of her many nieces and nephews. Among her many joys were her flowers and hummingbirds.

She is survived by her daughter, Marie W. Stocks; son, Harvey R. White; granddaughter, Jessica R. Tart.

In addition to her parents, “Doc” and Rosa Lee Hinson, she is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin White and her daughter, Renee W. Tart. Lena is also preceded in death by her five siblings.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethel FWB Church, 1936 Banks School Road, Kinston, NC 28504, or to the Lenoir County SPCA, 2455 Rouse Road Exd, Kinston, NC 28504
