Maysville to cut ribbon on state-of-the-art water treatment project
In May 2019, The Town of Maysville was part of a campaign administered by the PFAS Testing Network and administered through the UNC System to allow its drinking water to be tested for a suite of 50-55 PFAS compounds. In June 2019, the Town of Maysville was notified of PFAS contaminants in our water system. The Town’s levels were above the EPA’s health advisory levels of 70 parts per trillion. At the time, PFAS was non-regulated and not monitored by the State. The Town Board immediately responded by switching to Jones County Water to provide safe drinking water to our 450 customers.
The Town has been diligent in additional testing and treatment options that will minimize PFAS contaminants at or below the EPA’s recommended levels. Due to assistance from our State Legislators and USDA, funding was appropriated to add a state-of-the-art filtration system. We are excited to return to supplying our citizens with clean and safe drinking water.
State Director Reginald Speight and members of North Carolina Rural Development Team will be participating in a ribbon cutting ceremony with the town of Maysville, on December 1 at 11 a.m.
Rural Development invested $503 thousand through a USDA Community Facilities Grant to make improvements to the town's only water supply well.
The project will benefit the town's one thousand residents.
