Amanda L. Owens recognized as Board Certified Specialist by NC State Bar

This distinction recognizes Attorney Owens’ expertise, dedication, and commitment to providing top-tier legal services in the field of elder law.  

Amanda has been an associate with the firm since 2017 and consistently demonstrates her passion for advocating on behalf of the elderly, ensuring their rights are protected and their unique legal needs are met. She believes that when it comes to aging, having a highly skilled, reliable, and compassionate attorney can make all the difference. As a Board Certified Specialist in Elder Law, Amanda is poised to continue making a positive impact on the lives of seniors and their families. 

Amanda is a member of Elder Law & Special Needs Section of the North Carolina Bar Association and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). 


Elder law is a specialized area that encompasses a wide range of legal issues affecting seniors, including estate planning, long-term care planning, guardianship, Medicaid planning, and more. Attaining Board Certification in Elder Law is a significant accomplishment that demonstrates an attorney's advanced knowledge and proficiency in navigating the complexities of legal matters affecting older individuals. Amanda is joining the only 3.9% of lawyers who have achieved a designated specialization in their area of practice through the North Carolina State Bar.


To be certified as a board-certified specialist in a practice area, a lawyer must

  • Be an active member in good standing with the North Carolina State Bar for at least five years,

  • Devote at least 25% of their practice to the specialty during the past five years (substantial involvement),

  • Attend continuing legal education (CLE) seminars in the specialty,

  • Be favorably evaluated by other lawyers and judges (peer review), and

  • Pass a 6 hour written examination in the specialty practice area.
