Obituary: Betsy A. Barbee

Betsy A. Barbee passed away at home on March 20, 2023. She was born on June 14, 1937 to Olivette A. Armstrong and Herman C. Armstrong. She grew up in La Grange, NC where she made lifelong friends. She graduated from Wilson School of Nursing in 1958. She met Morris H. Barbee on a blind date and they were married for 55 years until his passing on their anniversary in December 2013.

Betsy loved being a nurse and while in Kinston worked at the Lenoir county Health Department, Caswell Center, and retired from Lenoir County Public Schools.

Betsy never met a stranger and all were welcomed into her home with open arms. She is survived by her daughter Becky of Raleigh, her son Morry and his wife Leigh of Kinston, her brother-in-law Allen Barbee of Grafton Va., her cousin Anne Vaughn of Wilmington, NC, adored nieces and nephews, and so many cherished friends.

Her First Presbyterian Church family was very important to her and a memorial service will be held at the church on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation to follow. At other times the family will be at the home of Morry and Leigh.
