NCDOT: Lenoir County Intersection to Become All-Way-Stop
Transformation expected this week
KINSTON – A Lenoir County intersection is scheduled to become an all-way stop this week.
The intersection of Hill Farm Road at Smithfield Way will be transformed into the new traffic pattern on Wednesday. Currently, drivers on Hill Farm Road don’t stop, so the N.C. Department of Transportation will install pavement markings and stop signs.
Concrete islands have been installed on either side of the intersection in preparation. Drivers, after coming to a stop, will continue to be able to proceed straight or turn right or left. The department consolidated some of the turning lanes to make the all-way stop operate more efficiently.
The department is making the change after reviewing a traffic study and crash patterns in the area.
Drivers are urged to slow down and be alert while crews make this change Wednesday.
An all-way stop is an effective and cost-efficient way to improve the safety of an intersection and reduce the risk of serious crashes. To learn more about them, visit this NCDOT webpage.
