SECU Foundation Honors High School Students with $10,000 Scholarships
SECU Foundation Provides $10,000 Scholarships to Area High School Students Award recognizes community involvement, leadership, and scholastic achievement
The member-funded SECU Foundation is providing $10,000 four-year college scholarships to three local graduating high school seniors for study at one of the 16 universities that is part of the University of North Carolina System. Scholarship recipients are:
Hadiyah Whitfield, a senior at Kinston High School, for study at University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill Mary Anna Respess, a senior at North Lenoir High School, for study at N. C. State University
David Phillippe, a senior at South Lenoir High School, for study at N. C. State University
The "People Helping People" Scholarship recognizes the recipient's community involvement, leadership, character, integrity, and scholastic achievement. Funds can be used for tuition and university approved educational expenses over eight consecutive semesters. High School scholarships awarded for the 2023 academic year represent a $4.35 million contribution toward the educational goals of college-bound students.
"These scholarships demonstrate our strong commitment to helping students achieve greater success as they follow their dream of pursuing a higher education and rewarding career," said Jama Campbell, SECU Foundation executive director. SECU Foundation's "People Helping People" High School Scholarship program has provided nearly $75 million in scholarships for North Carolina high school seniors since 2005.
