Lenoir County Farmer's Market update June 24, 2023

Lenoir County Farmer’s Market update for Saturday, June 24, 2023. The Market is open between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm on Tuesday and Saturday.

Last Tuesday the Farmers Market had the pleasure of hosting our friend, Holly White, a dietician at UNC Lenoir Healthcare, and the members of the Junior Master Gardeners class at the NC Extension Center. Everyone loved the salsa recipe that Holly made using ingredients from market vendors, so we want to share it with you.

Holly will be back on July 11, August 8, September 12, and October 10. Come to the market to learn about a nutritious and diabetic-friendly way of eating. She generally serves samples.

Located in Section 3 of the market, toward the Rick Holder Annex, local culinary artist Seraphim Smith will be baking his signature cinnamon rolls for Saturday, June 24. These tender and delicious rolls are made using a unique Austrian recipe that incorporates cardamom, along with cinnamon, cream cheese, butter, and REAL vanilla.

Furthermore, Seraphim will also offer freshly baked French bread loaves and specially flavored butter. Additionally, Julie Brennan will be baking her absolutely delicious zucchini bread. If the idea of bread made from zucchini initially repulses you, as it did for me, I encourage you to be brave and give it a try. As they say, you'll be glad you did!

B & B Eggs and Crafts will be at the market this Saturday with spring-designed crafts, some with beachy motifs, farm fresh eggs, and naturally grown "HEIRLOOM" tomato plants (CHEROKEE PURPLE GERMAN JOHNSON, BLACK KRIM, BEEF STEAK, BOX CAR WILLIE) Some of these already have tomatoes on them! Sandra will also have LOCAL wildflower honey for sale. Try some. It is delicious and has all the
local pollens that give it health benefits related to allergies.

Sunspot Gardens will be back at the market this Saturday!  We have a few tomato plants available including the hybrid red slicer AMELIA that folks were looking for earlier in the spring.  There are also some squash varieties available, a few cucumber bush plants, zinnia, and sunflower plants.  We also have several varieties of HOSTA available, so come check those out if you're looking for something for the shady areas of your yard!
