Obituary - Ronald (Ron) Charles Anderson

Ronald (Ron) Charles Anderson, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was born December 4, 1942 in East Amana, Iowa, the son of the late Christopher Hamilton and Leona Ruth Bahndorf Anderson, and graduated from Amana High School in 1960. He married Mary Anne Yanecek on November 9, 1963 in Marion, Iowa and moved to Cedar Rapids where they remained.

Retiring in 2014, he worked for Bridgestone/Firestone for 51 years in outside commercial sales, with all of eastern Iowa as his territory counting Martin-Marietta, Heartland Express, and CRST as examples of his long term customers, among many other transport companies.

“Pa”, as he was affectionately named by his grandsons, enjoyed repairing and restoring vintage John Deere tractors for himself and others. He was an avid gardener along with Mary Anne, and together they grew a large garden of tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, peppers, onions, and the like each year. He also was a gun enthusiast, enjoying shooting competitions, collecting, hunting, and gunsmithing, and was recognized by the National Rifle Association with various accolades, including Distinguished Expert Marksman. While the children were growing up, many weekends were spent together by the family at Jeff’s motocross races, traveling all over the country participating in national races with Ron being the hauler and performing various mechanic work such as rebuilding engines.

Later in his life, he and Mary Anne enjoyed watching and traveling to horse races and watching sports, as well as traveling to North Carolina to spend time with their grandsons.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Anne, a son, Jeff (Julie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a daughter, Jennifer Floyd (Greg), and two grandsons, Everette and Anderson Floyd, all of Kinston, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Julie.

The family will receive friends at Teahan Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 28th at 10 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. A private burial will take place at Hala Cemetery in Amana, Iowa at a later time.

The family expresses their appreciation to the caring doctors and nurses at Mercy Medical Center for their exceptional attention and care.
