Obituary: Harry T. Moody

Kinston- Harry T. Moody, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

His funeral service will be conducted Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 11AM Edwards Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday night, July 12, 2023, from 5 to 7PM at the funeral home.

Harry was born in Lenoir County to Ralph and Verdie Tyndall Moody on July 24, 1939. He graduated from Moss Hill School. When Harry was at the young age of six, he started working in his dad’s auto repair shop, which opened in 1945. He worked there until he was 80. When he first started working, he was so small he would get underneath a car and disappear. He was an avid fisherman and loved to water ski. He even went waterskiing on his 70th birthday. Harry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was a longtime member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.

Harry is survived by his wife, Margaret Shivar Moody; daughter, Marilyn Phipps; grandchildren, Megan O’Neal and husband Ryan and Daniel Phipps; great grandchildren, Harrison O’Neal and Kenan O’Neal; brothers, Ralph Moody, Ed Moody and wife, Donna. He is also survived by his special niece, Kristi Moody and husband Josh; nephews, Eddie Moody and wife Lynne and Doug Moody and wife Heather.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
