Obituary: Gina Thomasine Turner Justice
Gina Thomasine Turner Justice, 66, of Pink Hill, passed away on August 15, 2023, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loved ones.
Thomasine was born in Kinston, NC, on January 23, 1957, to Richard and Virginia Turner. She was the baby of her family, spoiled by her daddy and her big brother, Keith. She adored and emulated her older sister, Ann. Virginia and Ann taught Thomasine the art of style, sophistication, and spirituality at an early age.
She found her soulmate in Roman, and they married in May of 1977. Not an athlete herself, Thomasine eagerly adapted to Roman’s love of sports and was his biggest cheerleader at all his softball games. In 1985 Roman and Thomasine welcomed their sweet girl, Gina, and Thomasine found her true calling in motherhood. The joy she found in motherhood doubled with the birth of her baby boy, Chris, in 1989. The tobacco market provided the opportunity for the young family to travel to a variety of unique, yet memorable locations. Thomasine’s children knew her as a warm, loving mother, who perhaps was a little indulgent. Her love of shopping evolved from shopping for herself, to making sure her children were dressed as proper southern children should be. Years later Thomasine welcomed her son-in-law, Chase, followed by the sunshine of her life, her precious grandson, Braxton. Most recently Thomasine gained a daughter-in-law with Chris’s marriage to Lia. Thomasine was also a devoted mother to her fur babies, Faith and Aspen.
She carried herself with an air of warm sophistication. Typically soft spoken, Thomasine did have her own way of letting you know what she thought, and her opinions were rarely swayed. While she wasn’t one to smile for the camera, everyone she met was welcomed with a warm smile and a kind word. Her compassion and empathy extended not only to those she knew, but to any person or animal in need. When Thomasine was not shopping or decorating her home, you could find her at the beach or on the sidelines of Braxton’s ball games. At home she enjoyed Roman’s home cooked meals and supervising his projects around the house. Thomasine was always on the hunt for the next great recipe; she particularly loved baking sweet treats.
Early Tuesday morning, Thomasine was welcomed with open arms by her parents, Richard and Virginia Turner; her mother-in-law, Francis Justice, her sister, Ann Williams; and her brother, Richard Keith Turner.
Thomasine is survived by her husband of 46 years, Roman Justice; daughter, Gina Justice Mackey and husband Chase; son, Chris Justice and wife Lia; grandson Braxton Mackey; brother-in-law, Frankie Justice and wife Nancy; brother-in-law Murphy Williams; chosen sister, Lorie Noble; nieces Christy Turner Pridgen and husband Stacey, Nan Williams, Verona Williams, Marie Turner White and husband Daniel, and Casey Turner; Great Nieces and Nephews, Taylor Pridgen, Chloe Pridgen, Turner White, Ella Grace White, and Silas Keith White.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, August 17th from 6pm to 8pm at the Pink Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 18th at 2pm, with interment to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
