Stolen firearm recovered as fleeing suspect apprehended by KPD

The Kinston Police Department posted the following on their Facebook page:

Officers on C-Squad encountered Marlake Velez on E Lenoir Avenue. During the encounter, Velez fled from officers. Officers were able apprehend Velez shortly after a foot pursuit behind a residence on E Lenoir Avenue. The arrest led to the discovery of a stolen firearm from Nash County. It was also discovered that Velez was state wanted out of Mecklenburg County on several felony warrants that included: Possess Stolen Vehicle, Felony Flee Elude Arrest, & Resisting Public Officer. In addition to the warrants, KPD officers charged Velez with the following:

-Possession of Stolen Firearm
-Carry Concealed Gun
-Resisting Public Officer
