Obituary - Tony Allen Hill

Mr. Tony Allen Hill, age 45, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 8th, 2023. Born December 29, 1978, Tony was the second son of Roy Frank Hill Sr., and LaJune “Bunny” Byrd Hill.

Tony had the great privilege of being reared in a farming family where his love of the outdoors was fulfilled and cultivated. Growing up he was active in the Boy Scouts having attained state recognition for his Eagle Scout project upon its completion. An avid outdoorsman, he relished any opportunity to go hunting or fishing. His love of duck hunting led him to being an active supporter of the Ducks Unlimited Chapter at North Lenoir.

Upon completion of his secondary education at Arendall Parrott Academy in Kinston, Tony continued to NC State earning his undergraduate degree. He was entering his eleventh year as a Science Teacher at North Lenoir High School and was an Assistant Coach in the school’s athletics department.

However, for those that knew Tony well, his children were first in his life; Maysie and George were his greatest joy. Tony shared the love of fishing with Maysie and the thrill of hunting with George. Family outings at the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park with their black lab, Josie, would fill the entire day and were often occurrences on the weekends.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Barbara “Maysie” Hill and George Marshall Hill, both of Raleigh; mother, LaJune “Bunny” Byrd Hill of Snow Hill; brother, Roy F. “Frankie” Hill, Jr. and wife Mary-Kathryn of Kinston; nephews, Trey Hill and wife Lauren of Raleigh, and Zack Hill and wife Alex of Kinston; great-nieces, Ava Hill and Remi Hill; and a host of friends and school family of North Lenoir.

In addition to his father, Tony was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Dorothy Byrd; and paternal grandparents, Johnnie and Laura Hill.

A service to remember and celebrate Tony’s life will be held 3 PM Tuesday, September 12th, at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Pastor Hank Jarman officiating.

The family will greet friends and extended relatives at the cemetery immediately following the service and other times at the home of his mother, “Bunny” Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged in Tony’s memory to the North Lenoir High School Athletic Program, 2400 Institute Road, LaGrange, NC 28551 or to Ducks Unlimited.
