Introducing Shawn Condon: La Grange's New Town Manager
La Grange — Shawn Condon, the newly appointed Town Manager of La Grange, brings a wealth of experience in both public and private sectors, is poised to lead the growing community into a future of sustainable development and prosperity. Condon's career includes extensive background in public and private sectors, including roles as Town Manager in other towns and Organizational Development Manager.
“I believe this diverse experience equips me with a comprehensive skill set, allowing me to cultivate innovation, adaptability, and a strategic mindset—qualities crucial for navigating the challenges and opportunities that La Grange may encounter," said Condon.
Reflecting on his past achievements, he highlighted his time at Sanderson Farms, where he managed the design and implementation of training curriculum for over 17,000 employees, and his tenure as Town Manager in Warsaw, where he showcased financial management acumen. These experiences, he believes, position him to drive impactful change in La Grange.
Looking towards the future, Condon shared his vision for La Grange, focusing on preserving the town’s charm while facilitating sustainable growth.
“One of the main challenges facing La Grange is managing sustainable growth, particularly in response to the tremendous residential expansion the town has experienced and continues to undergo,” said Condon. “The key to addressing this challenge lies in strategic planning and a comprehensive approach.”
La Grange has a 2024 population of 2,874. La Grange is currently growing at a rate of 2.46% annually and its population has increased by 10.2% since the most recent census.
Condon believes “by fostering open communication channels, we can collectively develop strategies that balance the need for housing with preserving the town's character and ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with demand.”
Community engagement is a key aspect of Condon's approach. He acknowledged the challenge of managing the town's growth, especially considering the recent residential expansion.
Economic development remains a central focus, where Condon aims to balance growth with the preservation of the town's character. Condon stressed the importance of working with local government officials and regional collaboration with neighboring counties.
“The key to success in economic development and enhancing recreation programs is acknowledging the interconnectedness of our communities,” he said. “By actively engaging with officials in Lenoir, Jones, Greene, and Wayne Counties, we can harness the power of regional collaboration.”
On a personal note, Condon shared his deep connection to La Grange and his inspiration for pursuing a role in municipal administration. "La Grange holds a unique significance for me, rooted in both my personal history and a deep commitment to community development.’
